Abbey Clancy has candidly shared that she and her husband Peter Crouch have been neglecting the romantic aspects of their relationship lately.
Scouse beauty Abbey, 39, and the ex-England striker Peter, 44, first became an item in 2006. The loved-up pair tied the knot five years later in 2011, and now share children Sophia Ruby, 14, Liberty Rose, 9, Johnny, 7 and six-year-old Jack together.
Despite being together for nearly two decades, Abbey concedes they sometimes let the spark dwindle. During an episode of their podcast The Therapy Crouch, Abbey reminisced about the times the former Premier League ace would pen "love letters" for her during his playing days, reports Wales Online.
She expressed: "We haven't really made a romantic effort. Remember when you used to go to work and leave me little love letters on the pillow and stuff like that?"
Peter however believes it's small gestures that keep the romance alive in a long-term relationship. He added: "I think there was something today that made me think, 'Oh she loves me.'"
When quizzed by Abbey, he responded: "When you got up with me this morning when I was going out really early and you made me, because my back's sore, a little ibuprofen drink. As stupid as that sounds, it's a nice thing.
"And then lifted my top up and sprayed my back with Voltarol. In a relationship this long, that is a romantic gesture."
The couple were discussing romance after Peter claimed Abbey"takes it to heart" when watching a film. He joked it left Abbey longing for a fairytale romance like she sees on the big screen.
He remarked: "You take it all to heart, you compare everything to our relationship. And I think this is a Hollywood movie, a love story, no man is building that house in the Notebook for all those years.
"There's lots of romance in our relationship at various times. Hollywood romance is a film, it's Hollywood."
In The Notebook, viewers follow the tale of Noah (Ryan Gosling), playing a less wealthy young chap, who reconquers his beloved Allie (Rachel McAdams) by realising his vow to refurbish an ageing stately home that they dreamt of occupying together.
Peter and Abbey's conversation occurred against the backdrop of the model's recent admission that they are "living separate lives". This approach, she insists, allows them to "maintain a healthy relationship".
The revelation coincided with Peter's joy over the recent spell of sunny weather, which gave him the chance to indulge in golf. Abbey, on the flip side, has a penchant for animals.
She explained: "We live separate lives now. He goes to golf and I go horse riding, and then we meet at the end."
Clarifying their stance, Peter said: "I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Like, not every day, because we need to do stuff together as well. But I think some part of the week, I think that's a totally healthy relationship."
To round off the discussion, Abbey declared: "It is, because I've never been happier."
